Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti will be heading to Arizona next week to give the keynote address at the annual conference of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, the organization announced Thursday.

The 35th annual NALEO conference will take place at the Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix from June 21-23, with Garcetti set to speak on the opening day.

“We are looking forward to having Mayor Garcetti join us as we gather Latino leaders in the Grand Canyon State for the nation’s Latino political convention,” said Arturo Vargas, NALEO Educational Fund executive director. “As ground-zero for our country’s immigration debate in recent years, Arizona is the perfect place for our nation’s elected and appointed officials, and supporters to come together to address the most pressing issues affecting the Latino community today.”

Following his remarks, Garcetti will join Texas State Senator and former NALEO President Sylvia Garcia, Colorado Speaker of the House Crisanta Duran, former U.S. Representative and former NALEO President Ed Pastor, Florida State Senator Rene Garcia, and Texas conservative business leader and NALEO Educational Fund Executive Director Arturo Vargas for a panel discussion on Latino political participation in the 2018 elections and beyond. The panel will be moderated by Arizona Republic senior reporter Daniel Gonzalez.

The trip is part of an increasingly busy out-of-state schedule for Garcetti as he tests the waters for a potential 2020 presidential campaign. This year he has made political trips to New Hampshire, Iowa, and South Carolina, as well as two trips to New York for talk show appearances.
