A UCLA staff member who works off-campus has tested positive for coronavirus and is isolated at an off-campus residence, Chancellor Gene Block announced Monday.
No details about where the employee works or in what capacity were released.
“We are determining whether there are members of the UCLA community who need to be advised about their contacts with our staff member, and if so, we will activate our notification process accordingly,” Block said in a message to the Bruin community. “Please know that if there is a need for anyone to be isolated or tested, they will be contacted.”
Block, who is in the midst of a 14-day self-quarantine after being exposed to someone who has tested positive for coronavirus, said news of additional cases should not come as a surprise.
“It bears repeating that as testing for COVID-19 becomes more broadly available, we should prepare ourselves to expect the numbers of self-quarantine cases like mine and confirmed cases like that of our staff member to increase across the country and at UCLA,” Block said. “We have been expecting this reality, and we have prepared and implemented safety protocols accordingly.”
