A trailer housed in a commercial suite in Riverside caught fire, resulting in $50,000 in damages, fire officials said Saturday.
It happened just before 5:20 p.m. Thursday in the 1500 block of Columbia Avenue, according to the City of Riverside Fire Department.
The fifth-wheel trailer was likely set ablaze on accident by a “heat gun left in the on position and stored on a combustible material,” said Battalion Chief Bruce Vanderhorst.
Its owner attempted to put out the blaze with two fire extinguishers after he was alerted of the flames by a nearby business owner, according to fire officials.
The business owner was assessed by fire department paramedics for possible smoke inhalation but declined further treatment.
The suite suffered smoke and water damage, but no damage was done to adjacent suites, Vanderhorst said.
