Local artisans and artists can apply starting Monday for up to six months of rent-free, city-owned retail space along North Artsakh Avenue as part of a Glendale pilot retail accelerator program.
The city’s Artsakh Creative program will allow selected businesses — such as cheese, wine, oil, soap, clothing, jewelry or gift shops and galleries, dance studios, comedy clubs or bookstores — to operate rent-free for up to six months at four city-owned properties, located at 117, 123, 127 and 131 N. Artsakh Ave.
Officials said the program is an effort to spur the progress of its Arts & Entertainment District, aimed at making Artsakh Avenue a hub of entertainment, arts and culture venues and retailers.
Applicants will also have the option of proposing events and programming in the Artsakh Paseo, the pedestrian-friendly area on North Artsakh between Wilson Avenue and Broadway.
Businesses will be selected for a space based on the following criteria:
— creative experiences that are in line with the goals of the city’s arts and entertainment goals;
— a “well thought out” marketing plan;
— the applicant’s previous experience in operating retail pop-ups and events;
— unique and well-crafted products, items or services that complement and do not detract from existing shops in the Artsakh Paseo; and
— adherence to county Department of Public Health guidelines for COVID-19 protocols for retail shops and community events.
Businesses that are interested in applying may access the application at www.chooseglendaleca.com/artsakh-creative. The application will remain open throughout the duration of the pilot program.
