The Koreatown Youth and Community Center has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the S. Mark Taper Foundation to support programs for limited-income youth and families, it was announced Friday.
The funding provided by the foundation will be utilized for KYCC’s programs and services that support the needs of children and families in the Koreatown community. These funds will also aid in the expansion of KYCC’s administrative and development staff, as well as provide support for KYCC’s upcoming permanent affordable housing projects for formerly homeless individuals.
In addition to continuing existing services, KYCC has launched new services to address the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic — some of which include delivering 12,000 hot meals and groceries to vulnerable seniors, as well as providing assistance in accessing public benefits such as unemployment insurance, SBA loans and utility assistance.
“As we celebrate our 45th anniversary, KYCC is so honored to have received this grant from the S. Mark Taper Foundation,” said Johng Ho Song, KYCC’s executive director. “We are very grateful for the opportunity for our staff to continue serving the needs of the Koreatown community. Ongoing commitment from the Foundation allows us to do so, especially during this critical time when so many of our families continue to be impacted by the pandemic.”
The S. Mark Taper Foundation was founded in 1989 and is a private family foundation dedicated to enhancing the quality of people’s lives by supporting nonprofit organizations and their work in communities across Southern California. It is a longtime supporter of KYCC.
KYCC was established in 1975 to support a growing population of at-risk Korean-American youth in Los Angeles.
