The North Orange Community College District board is extending its search for a new chancellor after rejecting two finalists for the job, it was announced Tuesday.

The trustees decided to launch a national search for a new chancellor, starting in January, after interviewing two finalists for the post to oversee Cypress and Fullerton colleges as well as the district’s North Orange Continuing Education program.

“We had two very talented candidates as finalists for the position,” Board of Trustees President Barbara Dunsheath said. “But this position is critical for the success of our campuses and community, and we need to ensure that we make the right selection. So we will keep looking until we find the perfect person.”

In the meantime, Fred Williams, the district’s vice chancellor of finance and facilities, will be the interim chancellor. It is a post Williams has held in the past.
