Work continues Tuesday to expand a Coachella Valley Water District distribution pipeline system in Palm Desert.

The CVWD’s Non-Portable Water distribution pipeline has begun expansion to connect the Bermuda Dunes, Oasis, Palm Desert Resort and Woodhaven country clubs and will continue over the course of several months, according to the district.

Construction will occur for the next four to six months along Avenue 42 by Washington Street toward Water Reclamation Plant No. 10 in Palm Desert. Officials advised the public to expect periodic lane closures over the course of construction, but said one lane each direction will be open at all times.

The expansion of the pipeline will allow the soon-to-be-connected country clubs to utilize canal water and recycled water rather than groundwater for their irrigation.

CVWD officials hope the expansion will alleviate overdraft of the aquifer to allow for better balance of water supply and demand.

The Coachella Valley Water District provides water for approximately 108,000 homes and businesses mostly in Riverside County.
