A pedestrian was struck and killed on the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Commerce, authorities said Monday.
The crash was first reported at 11:07 p.m. Sunday just north of Atlantic Boulevard when the driver of a white Nissan Sentra told dispatchers she thought she hit a body, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of a black GMC Yukon SUV told dispatchers a few minutes later she hit the pedestrian, the CHP said.
The body of the pedestrian was in the No. 1 lane, prompting the CHP to issue a SigAlert shutting down lanes 1, 2 and 3 of the northbound Santa Ana Freeway at Atlantic Boulevard.
The SigAlert was canceled and the roadway reopened at 1:30 a.m.
