A car ran off of a Mead Valley road Thursday, slamming into water and gas meters at the edge of the street, rupturing both and causing a gas leak.

The non-injury crash was reported about 11:30 a.m. in the 21700 block of Markham Street, just east of Clark Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that two engine crews were sent to the location and found the busted gas meter emitting “a flow of gas,” prompting firefighters to request that the California Highway Patrol shut down Markham between Clark and Carroll streets for public safety.

No evacuations were ordered.

The driver of the vehicle did not require medical attention.

Crews secured the gas line, and by 1 p.m., SoCal Gas Company technicians were at the scene, making repairs.

The CHP was investigating the accident.
