The number of COVID-positive patients in Riverside County hospitals continues to decline, falling from 103 on Tuesday to 100, according to the latest state numbers.
Of those patients, 16 were in intensive care, the same as the previous day.
Also Wednesday, the Riverside University Health System reported 18 virus-related deaths, bringing the county’s total to 6,398 since the pandemic began.
Fatalities are considered trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates, meaning some deaths may have actually occurred weeks ago, according to health officials.
The RUHS also reported 200 new positive COVID tests. The aggregate number of COVID-19 cases recorded in the county since the pandemic began is 594,801.
The number of known active virus cases in the county was 7,249 on Wednesday. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 594,801. Verified patient recoveries countywide are 581,154.
