The number of COVID-positive patients in Riverside County hospitals decreased by five people to 87, according to the latest state figures out Tuesday.
Of those patients, 18 were in intensive care, the same as Monday’s total.
Also Tuesday, the Riverside University Health System reported six additional virus-related deaths, bringing the county’s overall death toll to 6,431.
The RUHS reported 302 new positive COVID tests on Tuesday, bringing the aggregate number of COVID-19 cases recorded in the county since the pandemic began to 596,205.
The number of known active virus cases in the county was 3,839 on Tuesday. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 596,205. Verified patient recoveries countywide are 585,935.
Fatalities are considered trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates, meaning some deaths may have actually occurred weeks ago, according to health officials.
