A 54-year-old motorist killed in a crash at the Interstate 215/60 Freeway Interchange in Moreno Valley lost control of his car and plunged down an embankment, where the vehicle caught fire, authorities said Monday.
Andrew Matlock of Moreno Valley died about 4 p.m. Saturday when his car went off of the northbound I-215 transition to the eastbound Moreno Valley (60) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Javier Navarro told City News Service that Matlock was at the wheel of a four-door Hyundai Accent that “veered to the right,” leaving the roadway and sliding down a hillside into a tree, where it erupted in flames.
“There were several good Samaritans who stopped to help, and they pulled the victim out of the sedan,” Navarro said.
He said a CHP officer reached the location within a couple of minutes and initiated CPR, then turned the life-saving effort over to Riverside County Fire Department paramedics, who pronounced Matlock dead at the scene.
