Two people were hospitalized with major injuries after a head-on collision in Mecca Saturday morning.

The crash was reported at 6:03 a.m. on Highway 86 south of Avenue 62, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash involved two Ford F-150 pickup trucks.

Both of the injured people had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters before they were taken to a hospital, one by ground ambulance and another by air ambulance, fire officials said.

The Riverside Country Sheriff’s Department was investigating the crash.
