Authorities Thursday released the name of a man whose body was found by a transient searching for recyclables in Costa Mesa.
The man was identified as 44-year-old Orion Gardner of Dana Point, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Anselmo Templado. Authorities were awaiting toxicology reports to help determine the cause of death.
The body was found about 5:30 a.m. Sunday behind the Bone Adventure, a dog daycare business at 2700 Bristol St., Templado said.
The CHP is investigating because the body was found on state property at the transition road for the Costa Mesa (55) and Corona Del Mar (73) freeways.
The body was lying against a fence line behind the business, and authorities estimate the unknown male had been dead for nine to 12 days, Templado said.
Investigators suspect it was another transient, Templado said. There were no obvious signs of foul play, trauma or self-inflicted wounds, Templado said.
