Firefighters are at the scene of a traffic collision that sheared a fire hydrant near downtown Los Angeles.

The collision was reported at around 1:30 a.m. and firefighters responded to 1508 S. Alameda St. south of the Santa Monica (10) Freeway where they found the hydrant with water impacting a nearby commercial building at 1601 Alameda Ave., causing significant structural damage, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

Firefighters contacted the Department of Water and Power to assist with shutting off the water and the LAPD will remain at the scene until there arrival, Stewart said.

No injuries were reported.
