The vote center is now open for the city of Sierra Madre’s May 9 special municipal election, the Los Angeles County Registar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office announced Saturday.

The vote center in the lobby of the former Bank of America building at 350 W. Sierra Madre Blvd. is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for in-person voting, or to return a completed vote-by-mail ballot.

Every registered voter in the city will receive a vote-by-mail ballot. Voters can track their ballot every step of the way with free text, email or voicemail updates at bit.ly/3KP6oIe. Voters can return the ballots by mail, no postage required, at the Sierra Madre City Hall Ballot Drop Box, located at 232 W. Sierra Madre Blvd., or at the vote center.

The special election is being held for voter consideration of one ballot measure — a zoning map amendment, specific plan and development agreement for The Meadows at Bailey Canyon project located at 700 N. Sunnyside Ave.

The city and the Congregation of the Passion, Mater Dolorosa Community seek to complete the sale and development of a 42-unit housing project across from the Bailey Canyon Wilderness Park, while a number of community groups oppose the project.
