A vehicle plummeted off a Santa Clarita roadway Friday, trapping the motorist, who was later transported to a hospital.
Los Angeles County firefighters responded to Soledad Canyon and Sand Canyon roads, near the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway, around 4:30 p.m. to a report of a vehicle over an embankment, according to a department spokeswoman. The motorist became trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated before being transported to a hospital.
The spokeswoman said that the motorist had been in a parking lot and was attempting to back out but quickly accelerated and went over an embankment.
Broadcast reports indicated that the motorist crashed through a fence and fell about 50 feet, landing on its roof.
