A person was fatally struck by an Amtrak train Saturday evening in the community of Highgrove, east of Riverside.
The death was reported at 7:36 p.m. on tracks at Villa Street and Highland Avenue east of the Riverside (215) Freeway and near Iowa Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The investigation was to be handled by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, the CHP said.
