A pilot escaped unharmed when a single-engine aircraft overturned Monday upon landing at the Santa Monica Airport.
The Santa Monica Fire Department responded to airport in the 3300 block of Donald Douglas Loop shortly after 3:15 p.m.
Upon arrival, fire crews determined that a small plane had overturned upon landing, ending up on its wings. Fire officials said the pilot, who was the only person aboard the plane, had already exited the aircraft and was uninjured.
The runways were closed while SMFD cleaned the area of debris.
It was unclear what caused the airplane to flip.
