A fire at a strip mall in downtown Los Angeles Thursday evening was extinguished in 74 minutes by 117 firefighters with no injuries reported.

Firefighters responded at 9:41 p.m. to 832 S. San Pedro St., near East Ninth Street, where they engaged in defensive firefighting operations as they encountered flames coming through the roof of a one-story row of commercial properties that house several textile and fabric businesses, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

Firefighters will remain at the scene overnight to coordinate salvage efforts and overhaul a large amount of smoldering debris, Humphrey said.

San Pedro and Ninth streets in the vicinity of the fire will be closed for several hours.
