The medical examiner’s office Saturday released the name of a Simi Valley man killed in a fiery crash on the Ventura (101) Freeway near Studio City.

Manikanta Gandham, 35, died from thermal burns, the medical examiner’s office said.

The crash was reported at 3:02 a.m. on the eastbound Ventura Freeway east of Colfax Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol Officer C. Ochoa, who investigated at the scene.

Gandham’s 2016 Mercedes-Benz sedan crashed into a 2020 Freightliner sweeper truck in an active Caltrans construction zone, Ochoa said. The impact caused the sedan to become fully engulfed in flames.

Gandham was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.

The 26-year-old sweeper truck driver was taken to a hospital with a complaint of pain, Ochoa said.

The crash temporarily closed the freeway in the area while the CHP conducted its investigation.
