A rest area near Mecca was shut down Friday as firefighters battled a fire to a single trailer carrying hay on Interstate 10 near Mecca.
Firefighters responded at around 10:50 a.m. Friday to westbound Interstate 10 at the Cactus City rest area to a report of a commercial structure fire, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
“Firefighters are on scene of a single trailer carrying hay, partially involved in fire,” fire officials wrote in a statement. “The trailer is detached from the cab of the semi-truck.”
The rest area was shut down as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, according to fire officials at around 11:40 a.m. The closure was expected to last 20 minutes.
