One person was killed when a vehicle went off a transition from the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway to the San Diego (405) Freeway on the Los Angeles County-Orange County Border, authorities said Sunday.

The crash was reported at 10:46 p.m. Saturday on the transition from the southbound 605 Freeway to the northbound 405 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Orange County Fire Authority paramedics pronounced one person dead at the scene and the Orange County coroner’s office was contacted at 11:09 p.m., the CHP said.

A tow truck with a 50-foot cable was summoned to recover the vehicle, the CHP said.

A news videographer at the scene said the vehicle hit a pole causing its roof to come off and parts were found at least 50 feet from the crash.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert at 11:09 p.m. for the transition road and the HOV transition lane from the 605 to the southbound 405. The HOV lane and lanes 1 and 2 were reopened at 12:05 a.m. Sunday.
