A fire in remote, rugged terrain in the Hollywood Hills northwest of Mt. Lee burned approximately one acre of brush Wednesday before its progress was stopped by what a spokesman called “a series of precise LAFD helicopter water drops.”
The fire burning on both sides of a ridgeline was reported around 5:30 p.m. and halted around 6:40 p.m., according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
There were no injuries or damages to structures, Humphrey said.
Three firefighting aircraft were dispatched to the scene due to the difficulty ground crews were facing reaching the fire, Humphrey said.
LAFD ground crews will remain at scene Wednesday evening to complete extinguishment at the perimeter of the burn area to assure final extinguishment, Humphrey said.
The fire’s cause is “under active investigation,” Humphrey said.
Two male hikers seen on trails near the fire “are at this time best described as `persons of interest,’ rather than suspects” because “their specific actions and intent have yet to be determined,” Humphrey said.
