A vegetation fire broke out in Palm Springs and reached 150 acres early Friday before firefighters were able to contain the flames.
The Palm Springs Fire Department reported at 5:44 a.m. that fire crews were on the scene of the vegetation fire, which was reported at 12:45 a.m. Friday near Highway 111 and Tramway Road.
The 150 fire was fully contained in a combined effort of 25 engines, five battalion chiefs and one division chief, fire officials said. The Riverside County Fire Department reported at around 7:40 a.m. that its resources were on-scene assisting with the fire.
“The fire is under investigation and no reports of injuries at this time,” Palm Springs Fire officials wrote in a statement. “Units will remain on the scene performing mop up checking for any hot spots.”
The Palm Springs Police Department reported that Highway 111 was closed off at Tipton Road at 5:34 a.m. due to the active fire, but it reopened shortly before 7 a.m., when police said that fire personnel were still on the scene.
