Two motorists were injured Wednesday in a head-on collision on the north end of Lakeview that forced the temporary closure of a road.

The crash was reported at 4:17 p.m. on the Ramona Expressway at Sixth Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officials said a pickup and sedan collided, coming to rest on the westbound side of the two-lane corridor.

It wasn’t immediately clear which driver caused the collision, or the specific circumstances.

Riverside County Fire Department crews reached the location roughly 15 minutes later and discovered both motorists trapped in the wreckage.

CHP officers shut down the expressway while firefighters extricated the victims, which took less than 10 minutes, according to reports from the scene.

Both motorists were taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley for treatment of minor to moderate injuries.

The roadway closure was lifted by 5 p.m.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
