A $25,000 grant by the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation will enable five senior programs in the east Coachella Valley area deal with rising costs to operate at full capacity, officials announced.
The grant will support programs at community centers in Mecca, North Shore, Indio Hills, Thermal and Thousand Palms, according to the foundation’s Cara Van Dijk.
The centers offer fitness, relaxation and revitalization activities for seniors.
“The social interaction for seniors at Desert Recreation District facilities is huge,” said Catharine Reed, vice president of Charitable Programs for the Foundation. “But, adding food, fitness and other resources can be life-changing for seniors, who may not otherwise have access to many of these essentials.”
