A half-dozen spot fires that erupted Wednesday near a Perris intersection were contained before posing a threat to businesses and homes in the area.

The non-injury fires were reported just before noon in the area of Navajo Road and Highway 74, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered six to seven small blazes in open space.

Winds were light, and the fires remained confined to the field, surrounded by roads, according to reports from the scene.

Traffic on the highway was not impacted.

Crews quickly gained the upper hand, knocking down the last fire at 12:25 p.m.

The cause of the fires was under investigation.
