A man was rushed to a hospital in critical condition after falling onto a fence and being impaled by it, the Riverside Fire Department said Saturday.

Firefighters responded to a building at 5920 Jasmine St. at about 3:35 p.m. Friday to a report of a man who had been electrocuted and had fallen onto a fence.

The found the man impaled on a wrought iron fence and suffering from significant burns to his body. The department said the victim was conscious and breathing at the time of firefighters’ arrival.

Witnesses told firefighters he had been working on the roof of the business when he came in contact with energized power lines and was knocked from the roof area.

The man fell approximately 20 feet before landing on the fence, and firefighters reported he suffered severe burns and traumatic injuries from the impalement.

The Riverside City Fire Technical Rescue Team was requested to help extricate the man from the fence.

One firefighter suffered a minor, unspecified injury during the rescue.
