Firefighters battled a quarter-acre fire of heavy vegetation that was burning Wednesday in Mecca.

Crews responded at 12:51 p.m. to a report of a vegetation fire in the area of Avenue 64 and Lincoln Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw the fire burning at a moderate rate of speed and requested additional engines, fire officials said.

No other information was immediately available.
