One person was in critical condition Sunday after a wrong-way driver who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol crashed into at least four vehicles in Riverside, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash was reported around 2:15 a.m. Sunday in the westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway near Eucalyptus Avenue, according to the CHP.

Firefighters from the Riverside Fire Department extricated one person from one of the vehicles involved.

The alleged wrong-way driver was subsequently arrested, but the person’s gender and age were not immediately provided.

The CHP did not confirm if any of the other vehicle occupants were injured.
