A brush fire broke out Monday on a hillside just north of Jurupa Valley, charring around 20 acres but not immediately threatening any homes as crews deployed to the location.
The non-injury “Sierra Fire” was reported at 3:20 p.m. along Sierra Avenue, near Armstrong Road, in an area known as Jurupa Hills, bordering the San Bernardino County line, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that multiple engine crews from both Riverside and San Bernardino counties were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate in the hills northeast of the Oak Quarry Golf Club.
Cal Fire aircraft were requested, but most were tied up at the 150-acre “Nixon Fire” burning in Aguanga, and it wasn’t immediately clear when air support would be available.
No evacuation orders were imminent.
The cause of the fire was unknown.
