A brush fire erupted Thursday in a Woodcrest neighborhood, scorching roughly three acres and consuming an outbuilding as firefighters deployed to protect multiple homes in the immediate vicinity of the flames.
The non-injury “Porter Fire” was reported just after 1 p.m. in the 16000 block of Porter Avenue, near Iris Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that multiple engine crews from the county and city of Riverside Fire Department were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate toward several properties.
Firefighters prevented the fire from reaching the residences, though an outbuilding on the perimeter of one property was destroyed, according to reports from the scene.
No Cal Fire aircraft had been requested as of 1:30 p.m. Officials were reporting “good progress” encircling the brusher.
The cause was not immediately known.
