Firefighters Thursday were working to fully extinguish a third-alarm fire in a warehouse in Montebello, an hourslong battle that involved personnel from several firefighting agencies.

The fire was reported at around 1:05 a.m. in a 10,000-square-foot commercial building at 860 Truck Way where fire crews found the high-leaping flames had engulfed the building, KNBC 4 reported.

About 80 firefighters were deployed, including personnel from a half dozen additional agencies sent to assist the Montebello Fire Department, Alex Gillman, a spokesman with the Montebello FD, told Fox 11.

The firefighters went into a defensive mode, working to contain the flames to the structure and prevent them from spreading further, and the effort was continuing after daybreak, Gillman said. One firefighter was injured and was treated at the scene, Fox 11 reported.

Hazardous-materials crews were sent to the scene, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
