A brush fire that broke out in Good Hope and charred roughly 130 acres, prompting evacuation warnings, was 40% contained Thursday.
The “Post Fire” was reported at 3:53 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Post Road and Gardenias Street, about two miles west of the Perris Raceway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Multiple engine and hand crews were sent to the location, encountering flames moving at a moderate rate amid heavy dry brush.
At the peak of the brusher, six Cal Fire air tankers and three water-dropping helicopters were making runs on it.
One firefighter suffered an undisclosed minor injury and required treatment at the scene, but he apparently was not hospitalized.
An evacuation warning was issued for properties in the lightly populated area south of Santa Rosa Mine Road, north of Gardenias, west of Post and east of Christmas Tree Lane.
The fire’s forward rate of spread was halted shortly before midnight.
“Firefighters’ … work will continue today, contending with heavy mop-up and high temperatures,” according to a fire department statement.
Sheriff’s deputies shut down Post between Gardenias and Santa Rosa Mine for public safety.
A care and reception center was established at Pinacate Middle School, 1990 South A St., Perris.
Pet owners were invited to drop their animals at the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus, 581 South Grand Ave.
