Containment of a 261-acre brush fire burning in the Badlands between Beaumont and Moreno Valley increased to 90% Monday.
The “Jack Fire” was reported at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of Jack Rabbit Trail and the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The fire was 70% contained as of 3 p.m. Monday and some resources previously committed to it had been released. By 6 p.m., the flames were 90% contained, according to Cal Fire officials.
No homes or other structures were threatened.
At the height of the blaze, multiple Cal Fire air tankers and water-dropping helicopters were making runs to establish containment lines.
No air tankers were assigned to the fire on Monday. However, more than 200 personnel from the county, along with municipal and tribal agencies providing mutual aid, were on the fire lines.
The Badlands features undulating terrain, no frontage roads along the Moreno Valley Freeway and very few houses.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
