A fire that erupted Wednesday in a house on the north end of Moreno Valley caused major damage to the property and left a firefighter with minor injuries that occurred while he was battling the flames.
The Trope Fire was reported just after 3 p.m. Wednesday in the 23000 block of Heliotrope Way, near Fernleaf Drive, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews from the county, as well as at least one from the city of Riverside Fire Department, were sent to the location and encountered flames raging on the upper floor of the two-story residence.
All of the occupants had safely evacuated.
Firefighters prevented the flames from jumping to surrounding properties, despite gusty Santa Ana winds, completely containing the blaze by 3:50 p.m.
A firefighter who went into the house suffered a lower leg injury that officials at the scene described as minor. He was taken to Riverside University Medical Center for treatment.
Crews were expected to continue mopping up until 6 p.m.
There was no immediate word on the number of people displaced.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
