Branches of a tree toppled onto gas meters in front of a Riverside condominium complex Friday, triggering a gas leak that prompted evacuation of multiple units.
The leak was reported at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the 1400 block of Everton Place, just west of the UC Riverside campus, according to the Riverside Fire Department.
Capt. Louis Contreras said that an engine crew was sent to the location and discovered branches had fallen down for unexplained reasons, landing directly on meters for the four-unit building.
No one was injured.
Firefighters confirmed all of the meters had been compromised and evacuated the units, leading to three adults being temporarily displaced, Contreras said.
The gas main for the building was shut off, and SoCal Gas Co. technicians were summoned.
As of 5:15 p.m., they were making repairs.
The meters were expected to be replaced before nightfall, according to the captain.
