A motorcyclist was injured Wednesday when his bike collided with a commuter bus on the Riverside (91) Freeway, which was partially shut down because of the crash.

The crash was reported at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on the westbound 91 at Tyler Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

It was unclear what caused the motorcycle and Riverside Transit Agency bus to collide.

The motorcycle overturned, tossing the rider into the HOV lane, according to the CHP. A car was also reportedly struck by the out of control bike.

Riverside Fire Department paramedics reached the location minutes later, and the CHP shut down two traffic lanes for public safety, leaving two available.

The rider, whose identity was not disclosed, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment, according to officials at the scene.

No one aboard the bus was hurt, nor anyone in the car that was hit. Both of those vehicles sustained only minor damage, the CHP said.

The lane closures were lifted by 5 p.m., with the wrecked bike and everything else re-positioned to the freeway shoulder.

An investigation was underway Wednesday afternoon.

  1. This was my nephew who lives in Norco.
    Hes ok.
He begins his medical tests starting tomorrow.

Fractured his back in 2 places, and has neck and shoulder damage.
Bounced inbetween the bus and a car like a ping pong ball.
Thank God he was wearing a back brace and protective gear.
Told him to many times to quit riding a bike in SoCal traffic cuz cars and trucks don’t pay attention to motorcyclists.
Ride with a Gopro, or some kind of dash cam.
Hes stubborn as hell and has a head like a bowling ball.

    Love him like a son.
    God bless 🙏
