Deputy Assistant Attorney General Michael Gates has announced his resignation from the U.S. Department of Justice, it was reported Sunday.

Gates shared a statement on social media, including Facebook and X, this weekend, in which he announced he would be returning to Huntington Beach to serve as City Attorney.

Gates served as Huntington Beach’s City Attorney for 10 years prior to working in the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ under the latest Donald Trump administration.

Gates announced on X that his return tenure at Huntington Beach will begin Nov. 24.
