A $4 million investment to upgrade infrastructure and improve water quality at the Palm Desert Aquatic Center will require a temporary facility closure starting next week.

On Monday, renovators will begin installing new filtration systems, pumps and heaters to all three pools at the center, which were originally constructed in 2011, officials said.

The cost includes a $1.6 million filter tank replacement, $1.4 million to remove and replace heaters and $1 million to design and reconfigure a pump room.

Once finished, visitors can expect to see improved water quality, reduced service interruptions and enhanced energy efficiency, officials said. The renovations are expected to conclude in January 2026.

“This project reflects the city’s commitment to high-quality recreational opportunities for our community,” Mayor Jan Harnik said. “Palm Desert is making an important investment in the Aquatic Center so families, athletes and swimmers of all ages can continue to enjoy healthy recreation for years to come.”
