Nine people sustained minor to moderate injuries Monday in a three-vehicle collision in an unincorporated area near Blythe

The crash was reported at 2:48 p.m. Monday at 14th Avenue and Neighbours Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said three medical helicopters and five ambulances were requested to assist at the scene. One person had to be extricated from the wreckage.

SR-78 was closed in both directions at 14th Avenue while the investigation continued, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
