Palm Desert officials are inviting residents to make a difference while enjoying the outdoors this Sunday during National Public Lands Day.
In partnership with Friends of the Desert Mountains, city officials and volunteers will take part in a trail cleanup and park beautification from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Homme-Adams Park, at 72500 Thrush Road.
The event will start with a park bench dedication honoring Buford Crites, a former Palm Desert council member who was a strong advocate for trails, parks and open spaces.
Cleanup activities will follow, including removing dead plants, trimming bushes and trees, hauling debris and light grading to beautify the area. Lunch will be provided and vendor booths from local organizations and community partners will be available.
“By volunteering at Homme-Adams Park, participants not only improve public spaces but also learn how small, thoughtful actions like trail maintenance, habitat restoration and litter removal help sustain precious lands for future generations. National Public Lands Day reminds us that caring for our environment is a shared responsibility and a way to connect with both nature and our neighbors,” city officials said in a statement.
National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event dedicated to public lands.
Volunteers are encouraged to sign-up for the free event at desertmountains.org/event/public-lands-day-with-city-of-palm-desert/.
