A campaign that aims to significantly boost the number of action sports — and therefore tourism dollars — across Lake Elsinore is part of a “bold” strategy that the city will fully support over the next 15 years, the mayor announced Thursday.

Mayor Robert “Bob” Magee praised the City Council’s unanimous support for the “Action Sports Industry Growth & Attraction Plan,” set to begin this year and continue to the end of 2040.

The council voted in favor of the plan during its regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 27.

“This is more than a plan — it’s a bold movement,” Magee said Thursday. “With its adoption, we are embracing our identity, investing in our future and putting Lake Elsinore on the map as the `Action Sports Capital of the World.’ This plan is about creating opportunity, pride and a world-class destination for residents and visitors alike.”

All municipal agencies will contribute to the strategy’s implementation, “pursuing private partnerships and grant opportunities,” according to a city statement.

“Lake Elsinore has the terrain, the energy and the community spirit to become one of the most exciting action sports destinations in the world,” Economic Development Director Gina Gonzalez said. “Our location and demographics within a one-hour radius make us uniquely positioned — not just nationally, but globally. This plan provides the blueprint to attract investment, host iconic events, build industry partnerships and inspire the next generation. Action sports are not just recreation here — they are an economic engine and a defining part of our identity.”

The city stated that the leading objectives are expanding or creating venues for motor sports, competitive skating and cycling; enlarging hiking and mountain biking trails; hosting a greater number of festivals; facilitating startups geared to action sports; and “creating pathways for local students going into sports media, engineering, coaching and product design careers tied to the action sports economy.”

The Lake Elsinore Chamber of Commerce will be playing an essential role, officials said.
