A man and a woman who were killed when a parked Honda Accord was struck by a big-rig on the Foothill (210) Freeway in Sunland were publicly identified Saturday.

Officers were dispatched at 9:52 p.m. Friday to the eastbound freeway, east of Sunland Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol reported.

“Preliminary investigation revealed Hardev Singh, of Manteca, California, was driving a Freightliner truck tractor (single unit) eastbound on Interstate 210 when he collided with a Honda Accord that was parked on the right shoulder of the freeway,” according to a CHP news release.

The collision trapped the victims inside the vehicle, CHP Officer Michael Nasir told City News Service.

The victims were identified as 25-year-old Wern Saetern and 23-year-old Alejandra Simental. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Their cities of residence were not available.

Singh remained at the location and cooperated with officers, the CHP said.

“The cause of the crash is under investigation,” according to the state agency. “It has not been determined whether alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this traffic crash.”

A Sigalert issued at 10:40 p.m. Friday closing the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes of the eastbound freeway at Sunland Boulevard was canceled at 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

Anyone with information regarding the crash was urged to contact the CHP’s Altadena office at 626-298-8100, or after business hours, the CHP’s Los Angeles Traffic Management Center at 323-259-3200.
