At least one person was taken to a hospital in an unknown condition following a violent, multi-vehicle collision involving a person driving the wrong way that closed several lanes of the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Claremont Wednesday morning as rush hour was due to begin.

The crash was reported at approximately 4:06 a.m. Wednesday at the eastbound freeway and the Indian Hill Boulevard off-ramp, California Highway Patrol Officer Elizabeth Kravig told City News Service.

According to a witness at the scene and the CHP website, a white SUV was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes when it collided with a black sedan.

Video from the scene showed several vehicles, including the white SUV and the black sedan, with significant front end damage. Debris and glass was strewn along the eastbound freeway lanes.

One person was seen being loaded into an ambulance and vehicles were seen backed up on the freeway due to the collision.

The CHP issued a SigAlert for the closure of four lanes of the eastbound freeway at Indian Hill for an hour, Kravig said.
