Palm Springs Pride will attempt to break the world record of assembling hundreds of Marilyn Monroe look-a-likes in the downtown area Saturday to honor what would have been Monroe’s 100th birthday, with proceeds to benefit the nonprofit.

A Guinness World Record attempt to break the current record of 254 people dressed as Monroe will take place at 3 p.m. near the “Forever Marilyn” statue. The event will feature live entertainment, food and a world record certification from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Organizers said they set a goal of gathering at least 500 participants for a synchronized photo as each participant has received a costume kit consisting of a white halter dress, a martini glass and a platinum blonde wig.

Beyond the world record attempt, the Plaza Theatre, in partnership with the Film Society of Screwball Comedy, will screen various films starring Monroe starting Friday though Monday. Tickets can be found at palmspringsplazatheatre.com.

Restaurants and other establishments throughout the city will participate in the celebration, officials said.
