One person was killed and two others were critically injured Saturday when a semi-truck crashed through the center divider wall on the Foothill (210) Freeway in Irwindale, authorities said.
The crash occurred at about 9 a.m. Saturday just south of the Irwindale Avenue on-ramp, the California Highway Patrol reported. The truck crashed through the wall from the eastbound lanes into the westbound lanes, striking at least two other vehicles, the CHP said.
Firefighters and paramedics dispatched to the location at 8:57 a.m. pronounced a person dead at the scene, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department public information officer. The victim was a woman, KTLA5 reported.
Paramedics rushed the two critically injured people and eight people with minor injuries to a hospital. Six of the eight suffering from minor injuries were children, the LAFD spokesman said. Twenty-two people injured in the crash refused medical transport, he added.
Irwindale police shut down the Irwindale Avenue on-ramp to the westbound freeway at 9:07 a.m. A Sigalert was issued at 9:14 a.m. shutting down the westbound freeway between Irwindale Avenue and the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway for an unknown duration. On the eastbound side, the carpool and two left lanes were blocked.
