A fire with visible flames and smoke at a vacant two-story building in the Pico-Union district was knocked down in 16 minutes Tuesday evening with no injuries reported.

The fire was reported at approximately 8:22 p.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of South Menlo Avenue, near the intersection of Pico Boulevard and Vermont Avenue, according to Jamie Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The blaze was visible from the first floor, with smoke billowing from the second, Stewart said.

At least one unit was exposed to the fire as crews worked to bring the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
