A pedestrian was struck and killed by at least one motorist Friday on the Riverside (91) Freeway in Riverside.
The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 9:30 p.m. Friday on the eastbound freeway east of Adams Street.
A witness reported seeing a pedestrian down in a middle lane and a dark-colored SUV stopped on the right shoulder, the CHP said.
The driver of the SUV told authorities the vehicle hit the pedestrian after the person was already down, the CHP said. Officers checked the area for a vehicle with damage consistent with hitting a person and did not find one.
Three lanes of the freeway were shut down for the investigation.
